The glaze is a golden yellow/orange over a speckled brown clay.

Oven safe — To avoid thermal shock, do not switch stoneware from one extreme temperature to another (do not remove from refrigerator and place in heated oven, or place hot dish in cold water). For safest practice, you can preheat the dish by placing the stoneware in a cool oven, then preheating oven.
Personally, I have not had any problem going from room temperature stoneware with ingredients (pie/casserole/bread/etc), and placing in preheated oven around 375 degrees.
